Using C code in Hana?

I have a bunch of C algorithms that I'd like to run on large amounts of data as quickly as possible using HANA. It will not be practical to convert this C code to another more compatible language, like R. There have been a number of threads (eg: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3308321) that say it "might" be possible by wrapping the compiled binary C code in "L" or "R" and calling it via SQL Script, but this seems like a complex back-door method. Has anybody actually successfully done this or another method to run C in HANA? What is the detailed process? Would it be impractical to support? What are the pitfalls? How does it perform when you throw lots of data at it?

As a side, this seems like a fairly common question without any detailed or straight-forward answers and seems to significantly limit HANA's applicability. SAP should seriously consider addressing this.
